Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikrom, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, commented that there is no possibility of Sheikh Hasina returning even in the next 10 years.

He made these remarks on Thursday (October 22) morning while responding to a question from journalists at the Bhola Circuit House.

The Speaker stated, ‘From my political experience, it seems there is no possibility of Sheikh Hasina returning even in the next 10 years.’

The Speaker further added, ‘During their time in power, the Awami League had created an environment where honest, good, and impartial individuals in society found it impossible to participate in elections. Radical reforms to the electoral system are essential. People who may not be wealthy or affluent but possess popularity and social acceptance should be given the opportunity to contest elections. To achieve this, the Election Commission must devise a method that enables common people to participate in elections.’

Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, ‘The upcoming local government elections should and must be free, fair, and impartial. Elections have not been fair for the past 17 years. Therefore, the upcoming local government elections will be conducted fairly and impartially.’

He also stated, ‘There is an adequate amount of natural gas in Bhola. It appears to be equivalent to the current national reserves. It is hoped that additional gas reserves exist here. The common people of Bhola also require gas. The residents of Bhola have been suffering for a long time. Gas is a legitimate right for the people of Bhola and a long-standing demand. I will discuss this matter with the Energy Minister.’

At this time, Bhola Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shamim Rahman, Superintendent of Police Shahidullah Kawshar, District Council Administrator and District BNP Convener Golam Nabi Alamgir, Member Secretary Raisul Alam, among others, were present on the occasion.
